Song of the Day - Rihanna: Firebomb

I think this is my favorite song of 2009. The lyrics are clever, slightly bitter, but oh so effing real. The vocal performance is commanding and sincere. The production is off da chain and this is simply a great pop/rock song. There is great movement in the melody, lots of tension and the proper release and a strong bridge. This is the kind of joint that makes me miss writing and producing music. Let me find out Rihanna may get me back in the studio!!!!

By the way, the entire Rated R CD is truly a well produced and performed album. Great songwriting, strong performances and an artist not afraid to grow. I'm pleasantly surprised at how capable Rihanna has turned out to be at working the gifts bestowed upon her.

Press play, read the lyrics while you listen and have a great day.

Firebomb
(J. Fauntleroy II, B. Kennedy, R. Fenty) Produced by Brian Kennedy for Team BK

Gunfire left a hole in the tank, losing gasoline
Fire is on my trail and he's after me
Hope it don't get here before I get where I'm going
I gotta get where I'm going
Take off my mask to breathe
You could've been a part of a masterpiece
Fluid in the breaks was the last to leak
That's the thing

Where I'm going, I don't need my brakes
Can't wait to see your face
When your front windows break
And I come crashing through

The lovers need to clear the road
Oh, oh, oh
Cause this thing is ready to blow
Oh, oh, oh

I just wanna set you on fire
So I won't have to burn alone
Then you
Then you'll know where I'm coming from
Fire bomb
Fire bomb

Seems cold but baby, know it doesn't have to be
Microwaving our metal tragedy
Watching it burn and it's beautiful and it's blue
And it's pitiful when its through
It's the other half of me
I didnt do it, you lit the match for me
Now we're flying from the blast, baby
That's the thing

Where we're going, we don't need no brakes
Can't wait to see your face
When your front windows break
And I come crashing through

The lovers need to clear the road
Oh, oh, oh
Cause this thing is ready to blow
Oh, oh, oh

I just wanna set you on fire
So I won't have to burn alone
Then you
Then you'll know where I'm coming from
Fire bomb
Fire bomb

Baby, we were killing them
They couldn't handle the millionth degree
We were criminals
As we were burning, the world called the police

Fire department, ambulance
You can call me crazy 'cause I believe
The only move for me and you
Is to go out blazing

The lovers need to clear the road
Oh, oh, oh
Cause this thing is ready to blow
Oh, oh, oh

I just wanna set you on fire
So I won't have to burn alone
Then you
Then you'll know where I'm coming from
Fire bomb
Fire bomb

Today Michael Jackson's This is It hits theaters and I have tickets for later in the day. I'm not sure why I am doing this to myself because I know I will cry myself through most of the film. In any event to celebrate the opening of the film I'm reposting the single from the new CD for your enjoyment.

Dy'Ari Listening Event in Manhattan

Dyari3.jpg
(SeanMichael Rodgers and Dy'ari)

It's nice to see people finish hat they start. Awhile back I did an artist profile on an up and coming vocalist I discovered online called Dy'Ari. Well last night I was one of approximately 60 invited guests at a special listening party to hear the debut release by Dy'Ari.

The event took place in Manhattan at the popular Secret Lounge on the west side. The event wasn't quite as star studded as the Whitney Houston event I attended a couple of weeks ago, but it was more impressive in several ways. First of all Dy'Ari is an independent act. SeanMichael Rodgers and Dy"Ari have been working hard on this double CD debut for quite sometime now and without the backing of a major label. Another distinguishing quality about this project is that it's and independent release that sounds first class complete with good writing, good arrangements, nice vocal performances and professional production qualities. In short you're love or hate this CD on the merits of the songs and Dy'Ari's performance because the production quality is on point and that cannot be questioned.

The music is electro pop and seems to be intended to stand next to artists like Lady GaGa, Michelle Williams, Katy Perry and others. In the coming weeks I will share more details about the music itself as the release date nears.

Dy'Ari happens to be a LGBT alternative artist and several members of and friends of the community were in attendance including; Baron, DJ Baker, Cordell McClary, Briian Dargon and others. Also in attendance was singer-songwriter-producer P. Murry and recording artist J-Harris.

Ledisi returns

ledisi2.jpg

If you love good "sangin" get ready. Your girl Ledisi is back!!!!!

Soul singer/songwriter Ledisi promises a to keep it “raw, spiritual, uninhibited, and aggressive, and tell it all” with her new album ‘Turn Me Loose’ (out Aug 18th on Verve Forecast). 2007 GRAMMY Best New Artist nominee Ledisi (rhymes with legacy) took the world by storm with her chart-topping Verve Forecast debut ‘Lost & Found,’ but says the new record is all about “the desire to be free and embrace change.”

Ledisi wrote and produced along with an all-star cast of producers of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Raphael Saadiq, Chief Xcel, Chucky Thompson, Ivan and Carvin, Lorenzo Johnson, Fyre Department, and ‘Lost & Found’ producer Rex Rideout to give her that “freedom sound” she was looking for, something she’s already known to bring to her live performances.

Listen to a sample of the new song "Alone" here: http://tinyurl.com/LedisiAlone

Though many have praised Ledisi’s sound, “a mix of contemporary urban, but her training and love of classic jazz and R&B show through, and her love of scatting has become signature,” (LA Times, 2/6/08), she says ‘Turn Me Loose’ was heavily inspired by listening to the raw soul/funk music of Buddy Miles’ ‘Them Changes’ over and over again for two months. “I cried when I first heard this album in 2008. I cried because I heard and felt the pain, the spirit in his voice it moved me. I wanted that freedom I heard in his voice. I wanted to scream and give my all without thinking,” she explains adding, “I studied Buddy's life and his music, which led me back to Mr. Jimi Hendrix, Mr. Prince, Mr. Sly, Mr. Fela Kuti and Mr. James Brown. I heard FREEDOM in their music.” Of the fourteen tracks on ‘Loose’, Ledisi wrote or co-wrote all but the cover of Buddy Miles’ “Them Changes.”

Ledisi’s 2007 major label debut 'Lost & Found' garnered the Bay Area resident two GRAMMY nominations including Best New Artist. The recognition led to a series of high-profile appearances in 2008 including performances at the JVC and Monterey Jazz Festivals and the Essence Music Festival where she performed with Patti LaBelle, a role in the George Clooney film Leatherheads, a song in the Tyler Perry film Meet The Browns, a performance with Prince at Coachella and on the Tonight Show, and a BET award nomination. Her powerhouse voice and stories of everyday struggles and triumphs have made such a strong connection with fans.

Urban Pop EXCLUSIVE - Whitney Houston listening event at Jazz at Lincoln Center

whitney_houston_2_3.jpg

For anyone who has doubts about Whitney Houston’s ability to deliver hot new music and inspire with her golden voice, rest assured the diva still delivers.

Last night in the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center Clive Davis personally hosted a once in a lifetime listening event to premiere Whitney Houston’s new album “I Look To You.”

It was the kind of event that you just knew was going to be special from the time we arrived. The event was a star-studded affair with celebrities, music biz legends, media and next generation tastemakers in attendance. The night promised to be special and it was just that. Attendees included Diane Sawyer, Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick, LA Reid, Martha Stewart, Vivica Fox, and several contributors to the new release including Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys whose collaboration called ”Million Dollar Baby” kicked off the evening’s journey.

Clive Davis played host for the evening kicking off the nine song listening session with Million Dollar Baby written specifically for Whitney Houston by Alicia Keys and produced by Swizz Beatz. The song is a club banger with attitude. Whitney rides the track with a joyful and triumphant vocal. The lyric is dope, uplifting and empowering and Swizzy’s beat is just crazy! The industry crowd not known for showing emotion went bananas!

Whitney teams up with Akon on the island-influenced mid tempo joint called “Like I Never Left” The song features a nice melody and laid back, but passionate vocals from Houston and Akon.
“Worth It” is quite likely my favorite song on a release full of potential singles. The song was written by Jonte Austin and produced by Eric Hudson. I just love this tune! It’s grooving without trying too hard and positive without being sappy. The track moves along with an understated funk that makes your head bob as you get caught up in the terrific melody and lyric.

Other contributors to the release include Diane Warren and David Foster who wrote and produced the pop ballad “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength”; Danja who produced Nothin But Love; Stargate who produced both the Jonte Austin penned midtempo romp “Call You Tonight” and the release’s only cover tune which we’ll get to a bit later.

R. Kelly penned the urban pop joint called “Salute” as well as the spiritually uplifting title track “I Look To You.” The title song embodies the over all tone of the release which is one of triumph over adversity and finding ones strength in something higher than self.

The evening came to a close with a truly original reworking of the Donny Hathaway classic “A Song For You” which after starting with a powerful vocal sung over piano chords, kicked into high gear with a club friendly track courtesy of Stargate. During the song the artist herself made her way onstage to personally thank everyone for attending.

Whitney looked incredible in a form fitting black dress and was clearly happy to be back. She’s in great voice, good spirits and apparently ready to remind us all why we fell in love all those years ago. As we all still grieve for genius lost, I’m happy to be able to proclaim “this is it!”

"I Look To You" will be released on September 1, 2009. It almost makes me look forward to the end of summer.

Introducing Fritz Helder and the Phantoms

Fritzlores.jpg

I'm coming out of my Michael Jackson mourning period and returning to normal life. I received an email today about a hot new act that I'm kinda excited about because they are quirky, creative and coming to town. The name of the band is Fritz Helder and the Phantoms. The video is creative and reminds of the 80's. They sorta seem like Scissor Sisters meet DeeLite and yes I think there may be some same gender lovin going on too. Of course anyone who reads this blog has matured past that being an issue...LOL.

The will be performing at Mr. Black on July 10 and I plan to check them out. They are the first act signed to Nelly Furtado's label and I suspect she will be in attendance and may even hop on stage with them at some point. If you miss this, just know that I tried to put you on early!!!!!!

Check out the special shout out they did to Urban Pop Life and then peep the video. Their bio is coming soon.

Shout out

Introducing Dy'Ari

Dy'Ari1.jpg

Facebook is of course ubiquitous at this point. I have fallen into Facebook hook, line and sinker. I like most people have tons of "friends" the difference for me being that I actually know about 90% or more of my friends personally. There are however, a few people who like the art, know of the photography or are friends of friends. I accepted a friend I didn't know recently and I'm glad I did. This new friend is a new recording artist named Dy'Ary (pronounced diary).

I don't know a whole lot about him yet except he is passionate about his art, seemingly honest about his life experiences and focused on making his dreams come true. I peeped 3 of his songs and I dig them. I am very curious to learn more about him and there may even be an interview sometime soon. Until then, check out his music and tell me what you think.

Music video: The Ting Tings - We Walk

the-ting-tings2.jpg

If you know me then you know I dig Pop, I dig new stuff or at least different stuff and I frickin hate that damned autotune sound on most CD's right now! Anyway, I heard a song by this duo awhile back and didn't have time to track it down until I saw a video online today. Now I have dug up a bunch of info on the band and another video and decided to share it with you. Check out The Ting Tings.

The Ting Tings are an English pop duo of Jules De Martino (born 1973) (drums, guitar, vocals) and Katie White (born 1983) (vocals, guitar, bass drum). Originally from Leigh, Greater Manchester, they formed in December 2004 while based at Castle Irwell, Salford. They have released four singles on their current label Columbia Records UK, including the single "That's Not My Name" which charted straight at Number 1 in the UK Singles Chart on 18 May 2008. The album We Started Nothing was released on 19 May 2008 and also charted at Number 1 in the UK.

The Ting Tings performed at the iTunes Live London Festival in the KOKO nightclub on 9 July 2008, and the performance was released as a downloadable EP in the iTunes store under the title iTunes Live: London Festival ‘08.

Their singles "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and "We Started Nothing" were featured in the Gossip Girl series, while the song "Be the One" was featured in One Tree Hill. Their single "Great DJ" was featured in the theatrical trailer for the critically acclaimed Danny Boyle film "Slumdog Millionaire", in addition to the Anna Faris comedy "The House Bunny".

The Ting Tings were one of four performers who played small interludes consisting of remixes of past hits throughout the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. They played a section from "Shut Up and Let Me Go" with former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM. The also won Best UK Video for their single "Shut Up and Let Me Go". Other artists who were nominated in the same category included Coldplay, Duffy, Leona Lewis and Estelle.

On 30 September 2008, it was announced that the Ting Tings will tour Australia and New Zealand in early 2009 as part of the Big Day Out Festival lineup. They also toured in Singapore as part of that festival's night counterpart, Big Night Out.

On 31 December 2008 they performed on Jools Holland's Hootenanny show to a prerecorded backing track, to bring in the new year on BBC2 in the UK along with numerous other singers and bands.

Columbia Records announced on January 16, 2009 the US release of the single, "That's Not My Name" for January 27, 2009 and a March/April US concert tour by the group.

Introducing KoKo Dozo

KD-pic01_03.jpgKD-pic07_07.jpgKD-pic06_07.jpgKD-pic01_06.jpg

Last night among my stops waz Bungalow 8 for the chic lil jump off hosted by Malik So Chic. The party waz eclectic, stylish and a lot of fun. I'm some new Sh*t this year and I have challenged myself to get out of the studio and my comfort zone and meet NEW...EXCITING...ECLECTIC people. Well so far, so good this year!

Last night one of the first people I met waz Amy Douglas and her husband (sorry bro I forgot your name). Amy handed me a CD and told me she fronted a band called KoKo Dozo. I politely took the CD, skimmed the cover and promised I'd listen to it and maybe even check her out when she performs live here in NYC. Now I have learned over the years not to get too excited when someone tell me they're a music artist cause I've spent some long days in studios with acts that...well...needed a little more time developing their craft. Imagine how I felt when I popped the CD in and Amy's big ass, sultry, greasy, sassy voice came booming thru my headphones and proceeded to ride the herky jerky, bass and drum heavy 4/4 back beat of their first ct on the CD called Face On The Dancefloor. I FRICKIN LOVE THAT SONG! It's part Dee-Light, part soulful 90's house music ala Funky Green Monsters and Martha Wash and part something wholly of their own creation. So after all that you KNOW I had to research them and get online and write up one ole profile post.

Influences: A Tribe Called Quest Afrika Bambaata Antonio Carlos Jobim Art Blakey Basement Jaxx Bela Bartok Benny More Betty Davis Bill Evans Bjork Black Sabbath Bob Marley Bonde Do Role Brazilian Girls Brian Eno Bugge Wesseltoft Buju Banton Burt Bachrach Calle 13 Captain Beefheart Celia Cruz Charles Mingus Chic Claude Debussy Da Lata Daft Punk David Bowie Dee-Lite Depeche Mode Devo Devo Doc Boggs Donna Summer Duke Ellington. What the hell kind of band has that list of people named as influences? A pretty darn funky, soulful, colorful, talented and creative one I'd say. The 3 song promo CD I received has me hooked. I can wait to interview them, hear the full CD and post a more in depth piece on them in the future.

Upcoming Shows

Feb 21 2009 10:00P

Until then enjoy what I've got on them and get out there and learn more for yaself.

Ronald Jenkees is back

"When I was your age we walked 5 miles to school in the snow in snow up to our knees." " When I was in college we had to type our papers on typewriters and if we made a mistake we had to use white out to correct the mistakes and it never worked and made us sick in the process." These are the types of things our parents said to us and we now say to our kids and younger siblings.

These types of statements are funny yet true. Things most definitely have changed and they always do. What amazes me is how technology makes everything sooooooooooo immediate. Humans have always built the future on a foundation laid in the past, but now we can actually witness this process in action.

Awhile back I introduced you guys to a super talented musician named Ronald Jenkees. Then I showed you a video a talented visual artist did using his music. Now another musician has done a virtual jam session where he takes a Ronald video and original composition and "jams" with him as tho they were together in the same room.

I love the power of the internet to make the world a much smaller and more intimate place. There's something kind of comforting about that to me on a cold fall night here alone in my studio. After all the purpose of my art is to demonstrate the reality that we are one or as my boy Adam Irby often says "we are all much more alike than we are different." Images can and do create a perceived reality. I'm out to use them for the common good.

You hip hop or soul music heads may not dig this so much since it's rock music, but the talent and joy transcends.

Enjoy.

Labelle is back!!!!!!!!!

“I didn’t know if we still had it but we have a sound no one else has…” Patti LaBelle

“It’s as if we never stopped. The thread just continues…” Nona Hendryx

“It’s a sound piece of music - this new album definitely represents Labelle today…” Sarah Dash

YES IT'S TRUE...LABELLE IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the history of female groups, none has ever achieved the longevity, or experienced the kind of creative evolution, that Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash have. Since their original formation at the dawn of the girl-group era as The Bluebelles (with then-fourth member Cindy Birdsong) in 1961, through their incarnation as R&B powerhouse (Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles), and on to their pioneering years as the unprecedented rock-soul-funk trio Labelle, Hendryx, LaBelle and Dash have remained peerless.

These three women spent fifteen years together with a consistent commitment to bringing energy, excitement and soul power to live performances, and cutting-edge innovation to a series of classic albums until 1976, when they separated without fanfare to pursue individual goals and aspirations. Thirty-two years later, with the release of a brand new Verve Records album (featuring such top notch producers as Lenny Kravitz, Gamble & Huff, and Wyclef Jean), the aptly titled Back to Now, Labelle is back on center stage.

Jazmine Sullivan

jazminesullivancropped-1.jpg

So right here, right now I'm listening to my new favorite CD...Fearless by Jazmine Sullivan. For those of you who have been waiting...it IS WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!!

My favorite cuts are:

In Love With Another Man
Lions, Tigers and Bears
Need You Bad
My Foolish Heart
Switch

The CD is well done, soulful, entertaining and definitely worth checking out. It does have a curious mix of R&B, pop, retro soul and the reggae inspired single Need You Bad. I don't wanna spend a lot of time going on and on about it. Pick it up and try it for yourself, then write in and tell me what you think.

The end of the Police?

I knew that would get your attention...lol. Naw we have to deal with "those police" forever, but one of my favorite bands of all time seems to have finally called it quits for good with their last concert of their record breaking tour last night.

If you know anything about me, you know that I came of age in the 80's and hve a deep love of 80's music from Prince and Michael jackson to Madonna, Culture Club, New Wave music, 80's Pop and The Police. Depending on my mood I paint to 80's music, an acoustic mix or current hip hp and R&B. My early work is almost entirely influenced by 80's music and the colors it invokes. Among my favs are songs like Roxanne, Message in A Bottle and King of Pain by The Police.

Peep this story from Billboard Magazine online and enjoy.

The Police Call It A Career At New York Show

police_the_05l.gif

August 08, 2008 , 12:00 AM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The reunited Police took a final bow last night (Aug. 7) at New York's Madison Square Garden, capping a 151-show tour that will finish as the third highest-grossing of all time with $358,825,665 at the box office, according to Billboard Boxscore.

Tickets could only be obtained via donation to local public television stations Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21.

Bassist/vocalist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland began the proceedings with a surprise cover of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love." Afterward, the New York Police Department band augmented normal set-opener "Message in a Bottle."

There was only an intermittent amount of sentimentality to the show, with Sting at one point telling the crowd, "It's been a huge honor to get back with my good friends. The real triumph of this tour is that we haven't strangled each other -- that doesn't mean it hadn't crossed my mind."

But for the men on stage, it was clearly special. Sting's daughters danced with him on stage during "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," and a grinning Sting got so close to Summers as to whisper in his ear while eating up his solo on "So Lonely."

Here is the Police's final show set list:

"Sunshine of Your Love"
"Message in a Bottle"
"Walking on the Moon"
"Demolition Man"
"Voices Inside My Head" / "When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around"
"Don't Stand So Close to Me"
"Driven To Tears"
"Hole in My Life"
"Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"
"Wrapped Around Your Finger"
"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da"
"Invisible Sun"
"Can't Stand Losing You" / "Reggatta de Blanc"

Encore one:
"Purple Haze"
"Roxanne"
"King of Pain"
"So Lonely"
"Every Breath You Take"

Duffy

When I was younger I went through this phase when I wanted to move to the UK. I had never been there before and didn't really have any idea what I would do when I got there. I just wanted to be there to experience the music scene. I loved everything coming out of London from new wave music to Terence Trent D'Arby . The music from London during that time period was so beautiful, soulful, insightful and moving it made me wanna live in the city when I listened to it.

I can't say I wanna move to Wales (though I am sure it is beautiful, but I do wanna visit London again) and this time Duffy is the reason. From the laid back blues of "Syrup and Honey" to the Motown inspired pop of "I'm Scared" and the playful 60's romp "Mercy" this chick simply "gets it!" Duffy sings her heart out on the piano ballad "Save It for Your Heart" and channels Dusty Springfield on the title cut "Rockferry." If this was where it ended the CD would be fiyah, but there's more! The second single "Warwick Avenue" is an instant classic. It's a melancholy pop send up that channels vintage Smokey Robinson with a committed and nuanced vocal by Duffy. My personal favorite is "Stepping Stone" a great pop tune with a biting lyric and late 60's inspired arrangement that brings to mind a Dionne Warwick track or the ethereal arrangement in Aretha's Until You Come Back to Me.

The tunes are well crafted pop joints with a healthy dose of soul (as in humans all have souls so anything sung passionately is soul music). Duffy is serious about delivering the goods without taking herself too seriously. This CD manages to evoke memories of great musical moments past while managing to sound and feel fresh and liberating.

Haters beware, the comparisons to Amy Winehouse are off base and actually kind of ridiculous. Mercy is the only joint that is remotely similar to a Winehouse track and even that's a bit of a stretch. If Rockferry has any weakness it lies in the fact that it is very very retro inspired (almost to the point of imitation).

I am well aware of the Elvis syndrome that black musicians rightfully complain about when an otherwise mediocre white artist gets serious props for doing average interpretations of black music, this simply is NOT one of those instances. The Obama inspired/post race world isn't yet a reality, but race has nothing to do with the quality of this CD. Duffy simply delivers the goods in a sincere and passionate way that resonates with music lovers of all colors.

Rockferry is a release full of great songs delivered passionately by a capable young artist. I for one am thankful for a CD I can listen to from start to finish and feel refreshed when it comes to a soulful end. Rockferry is a release full of great songs delivered passionately by a capable young artist. Man it feels good to actually like a CD again.

The State of Black Music

Can someone please point me towards the really creative black music right now?

Over the past 3 years nearly every song or CD that has really resonated for me as been either a pop joint or a vanilla soul release. My favorite artists and releases recently have included: Madonna, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Amy Winehouse, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Robin Thicke, Sara Barialles, Maroon 5, Ingrid Michaeleson and my latest not so guilty pleasure Duffy.

I grew up on hip hop, 70's and 80's pop, and R&B. My moms bathed my childhood in classic soul. Her favorite artists were people like Al Green, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, The Whispers, Motown, Aretha, The O'Jays and more. I loved disco, soul, funky rock and new wave music. Some of my favs include: Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack, Sly and The Family Stone and of course Prince who is my fav artist of all time. I also got deep into New Wave and punk acts like The Clash, Blondie, The Police, Talking Heads, Duran Duran, Yaz, Culture Club and other 80's pop acts as well.

I liked a lot of R&B/Hip Hop in the 90's including New Jack Swing, Janet Jackson, Babyface, Whitney, Mariah, early neo-soul and I may have been the biggest Lauryn Hill fan on earth. I also got into: Usher, Mary J. Blige, Aaliyah, Missy, Beyonce, Brandy, Tupac, Biggie. Foxy Brown, Lil Kim and more. Then somewhere along the way the radio sorta started to bore me a lil.

People of color are incredibly creative and our history proves it. However, our creative instincts are often suppressed by the fear of being ostracized for "not being black enough". For me the question is this: did someone steal the soul and if so how do we get it back? Is the answer to once again become fearlessly creative, innovate at every opportunity and not be afraid to try something new EVERYTIME? Is it to just make music that is entertaining, passionate and sincere?

For now I guess imma keep Duffy, Amy Winehouse, Madonna, Britney Spears, Robin Thicke, Kanye West and Lil Wayne on shuffle. Shout out to Lil Wayne and Kanye for giving us some kind of reason to keep hope alive. Ciara, Brandy, Alicia and Jazmin Sullivan...I see you too (wink).

Yo I'm scared because I'm not sure if music has changed for the worse, changed for the better or I'm simply older now and a lil out of touch. How do you feel? What's in your ipod? I wanna hear from ya.
